From Military Service to Project Management
The WMPMI has always honored and heard from veterans during the month of November. This year is no exception. The speakers will draw upon their experiences in the military and how that relates to project management.

Session 1
The Battlefield to the Boardroom: How adjusting my mindset and creating goals changed my life
During this discussion, Jax will explain how she used her unique military experience to cope with the ugly truth of military transition and veteran stigmas. She overcame all odds to be where she is today and she did so by developing a healthy mind and setting obtainable goals. Jax wants everyone to walk away from this discussion with mindset techniques to help increase personal awareness and goal setting tools to assist you in your journey.

Special Ops Veteran
As a tenured Special Operations Warrant Officer, tech blogger, small business owner and Senior Analyst in Global Intelligence, Jaclyn “Jax” Scott has sought to expand her skills within cybersecurity. Jax has held positions on boards of nonprofits providing tactical advice to reduce injury to women and children effected by sex trafficking and held executive leadership roles providing cybersecurity guidance to foreign leaders. She is an expert in military cyber policy and has led global development operations in cyber countermeasures to mitigate near-peer attacks.
Jax has nearly 17 years’ experience working in military operations where she worked on a special unit that offered gender specific intelligence and security solutions. She is committed to her growth as a leader and is currently finishing her Master’s in Cybersecurity Risk Management at Georgetown University.

My Path from Military Service to Coaching Agile Transformations
Derek will discuss his experience and path from transitioning from the service to developing a successful career in project management and agile coaching.
About the Speaker: Derek Beck
Derek is a 20-year military veteran who has honed his training, coaching and mentoring skills building high-performing teams and leading a diverse workforce in dynamic, high-visibility project environments. He is currently the President and CEO of Blue Summit Consulting Group, LLC, an American Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) and PMI Authorized Training Partner providing change management, project management and Agile training and coaching services to help clients achieve true Business Agility.
Passionate about helping others succeed, Derek also serves as the current President of Agile Augusta and previously served on the Board of Directors for the PMI® Augusta-Aiken Chapter as the VP of Professional Development and Training Programs, teaching PMP®/CAPM® and PMI-ACP® Boot Camps to more than 400 students over the past four years. Additionally, he also volunteers as a mentor for entrepreneurs through a local business incubator to maximize their success in making their dreams a reality.
His educational accomplishments include: Executive Master of Business Administration degree, Master Certificates in Applied Project Management and Enterprise Lean Six Sigma (Green and Black Belts), and certifications as a Project Management Institute (PMI)® - Project Management Professional (PMP)®, Agile Certified Practitioner (ACP)®, Certified Disciplined Agile Lean Scrum Master (CDALSM)®, Certified Disciplined Agile Coach (CDAC)®, and Certified Disciplined Agile Instructor (CDAI)®.
