Topic: It is all about Your Style (Leadership Style)

Description:

The leadership style applied by a project manager is recognized as a factor affecting the project team. Research states the correct project team leadership style can increase team productivity by up to 30%. A manager’s selected leadership style influences the level of job satisfaction of the manager’s subordinates. Satisfaction with work promotes self-esteem and personal dignity. Self-esteem stimulates a positive relationship with co-workers, and enhances career growth.

The PMBOK© 6th edition in the new section (1.8) on the role of the project manager discusses the part leadership styles plays in managing projects and the factors that may influence the leadership style or leadership styles chosen by the project manager. While many leadership styles exist, the PMBOK© 6th edition list these six as some of the more common leadership styles; Laissez-faire, Transactional, Servant Leader, Transformational, Charismatic, and Interactional. Robert defines each of these styles followed by open dialogue from the attendees after presenting the leadership style.

No leadership style fits all situations however by understanding these leadership styles project managers leave with battery of styles to apply as the situation warrants.
