Session 2 Presentation: Managing the Dragon New Holland Brewing Lands in the Westside

New Holland Brewing’s new Grand Rapids location is a part of an ambitious mixed-use development recently built as the Gateway to the West side of Grand Rapids. This $22 million project includes brewery, restaurant, retail, residential, and office spaces as well as beer and rooftop garden spaces.

There was an increased degree of difficulty not only for the architectural and engineering design of the project, but also for the Project Management of the design team due to aggressive schedules, tight urban construction site, financial pressures, multiple stakeholders, multiple regulatory authorities, as well as multiple specialty consultants. Managing risk was a constant as many seen and unforeseen factors and forces came to bear on this unique and challenging project.

Following a description of typical architectural project delivery, and the role of the Project Manager, participants will understand the some of the unique challenges architectural and engineering design teams must overcome, and how collaboration can address these challenges for a successful project completion.

Session 2 Presenter: Bob Pomeroy, AIA

Bob Pomeroy, AIA is an Associate/Senior Architect with FTCH. Bob was the Project Manager & Design Architect for New Holland Brewery & Barley Flats, a new $22 million, 5-story, mixed use development in Grand Rapids. He is currently a Project Manager for a $62 million addition to the Michigan State University Broad School of Business in East Lansing. Other notable local projects in which Bob had a role as Design Architect or Project Manager include P. Douglas Kindschi Hall of Science (GVSU); Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park; East Grand Rapids Community Center; Heritage Pointe; and Wolverine Gas & Oil offices.  He performs architectural programming, design, contract documents, and construction administration for higher education, healthcare, office, commercial, and civic projects.
